Accommodation in Monument Valley is very limited. There are only two hotels at the Monument Valley visitor centre. They are both quite expensive and fill up very quickly meaning you have to book far in advance. Otherwise you can choose to stay in Mexican Hat or Kayenta. Yet for us we wanted to have a truly magical stay in Monument Valley and thought we would find that in the small town of Bluff at the Desert Rose Inn.
We were half way through our USA road trip and it was time to pamper ourselves a little. I think it is important when you are on long trips to actively plan ‘rest days’, days where you just take time to relax. Just like when you are working out a gym routine, rest days are essential. Rest days whilst travelling are very important to refuel and soak in all the experiences you have had so far. When a saw a picture of the pool at the Desert Rose Inn, I thought this would be an amazing place to have a rest day! The idea of swimming in a swimming pool in Monument Valley whilst looking at the desert landscape sounded like heaven! When you are deciding where to have a rest day on a trip, it is important to treat yourself to a nice place to stay and preferably one that does not break the bank! Bluff is actually one of the cheapest places to stay in Monument Valley making Desert Rose Inn a great affordable luxury accommodation option!
I booked a two-night stay at Desert Rose Inn and this is what we thought of our experience at this affordable luxury accommodation in Monument Valley.
Our arrival at Desert Rose Inn & Cabins
We had spent the morning at Horseshoe Bend in Page, then exploring one of the various hikes in Monument Valley in the afternoon before catching the sunset at Forrest Gump point. It had been an amazing day in the American South West! Safe to say we were pretty tired by the time we got to the Desert Rose Inn & Cabins. Upon arrival we parked up and checked in. The receptionist was friendly and I was pleased to see there was a small store and a gift shop there.
The whole interior was beautiful decorated. It was nice to see images of Zion on the wall as we had been there only a few days before.
The wooden shelves and high ceilings gave the accommodation a very luxurious feeling. Our first impressions were that this was fantastic affordable luxury accommodation in Monument Valley! The fireplace was very welcoming as well as it was quite cold as we were visiting in November. I wanted to cuddle up on one of the armchairs and read a good book.
Once we had our key card we went to check out our room!
The Rooms at Desert Rose Inn & Cabins
There are several different room types at the Desert Rose Inn & Cabins. There is the king room, the queen room, the cottage and the superior queen room. We had managed to book a last-minute Queen room which had two huge queen beds!
The Bedroom at the Desert Rose Inn & Cabins
There were tea and coffee making facilities. There were many different types of tea and we could fill up on unlimited tea bags at reception. I was also very grateful for the fridge where we could store our almond milk.
The room came with WIFI and a flatscreen TV. Air con was also in the room but we did not need that in November! It was nice a toasty though meaning we had a great night sleep here! The beds were very comfortable.
The Bathroom at the Desert Rose Inn & Cabins
The bathroom came with a bath, shower and toilet as well as a few toiletries for those who had forgotten or run out. You might want to check out this post for our zero-waste travel packing list for beginners.
The Swimming Pool at Desert Rose Inn & Cabins
One of the main reasons I booked to stay at the Desert Rose Inn was the pool! The idea of swimming in a pool whilst seeing views of mesas and buttes sounded like a very bucket-list-worthy experience!
The swimming pool at Desert Rose Inn & Cabins did not disappoint!
After a great night’s sleep and a very lazy start to the day we went to check out the pool. It was stormy weather outside so we had decided to have a rest day rather than keep exploring. Arches national park was also out of the question as we had been told the road was super snowy and icy. Oh well, we would just have to relax by the pool!
Our key card gave us access to the pool and no one else was there! Admittedly it was Thanksgiving but we loved having the pool to ourselves!
We choose a couple of loungers, grabbed some towels and then got in the jacuzzi! We could control the bubbles and Alex was grateful for the hot water after days of driving. A couple of pictures then we chilled in the lovely jacuzzi together. We could look out of the huge windows and see the storm brewing across the desert. It was nice to feel all safe and warm inside.
After the jacuzzi I thought it was time to do some lengths! I needed to work off all those lovely vegan burgers and vegan tacos we had been enjoying on our American road trip!
Again, it was so relaxing swimming up and down my own private pool whilst looking at the mesas and buttes outside. Surely this must be one of the world’s most scenic pools?! Whilst I loved the pool at the White Boutique Hotel, this had a better view! It is certainly one of the most memorable pools I have ever swum in!

The Gym at Desert Rose Inn & Cabins
There is a gym at Desert Rose Inn & Cabins but we did not actually use it. After hiking at Wire Pass, checking out Angel’s Landing in Zion then wondering on the Wildcat Trail hike in Monument Valley our legs were pretty tired! We did however, make the most of chilling in the pool at Desert Rose Inn!
It is great that they have a gym and had we had a little more energy it would have been great to have utilised!
I mean that view alone would be worth jumping on the tredmill for! You could pretend to be Forrest Gump without jogging in the road!
Security at Desert Rose Inn & Cabins
We had a handy key card and felt secure at the Desert Rose Inn & Cabins.
The Location of Desert Rose Inn & Cabins
The location of Desert Rose Inn & Cabins is a great base if you are visiting more than just Monument Valley!
Desert Rose Inn is located in the small town of Bluff. Bluff is about 1 hour from Monument Valley and about two hours from Arches National Park and Mesa Verde. Of course, there are more wonderful national parks to visit in Utah such as Zion and Bryce or the amazing Wire Pass slot Canyon, but you might want to stay a little closer than Bluff for those. A few people argue that Bluff is a bit far to stay for visiting Monument Valley. Yet as there is such limited accommodation in Monument Valley, Bluff is actually the cheapest place to stay in Monument Valley. You could stay in Mexican Hat or Kayenta, but Bluff has a really cute small-town vibe and you get real value for money staying at the Desert Rose Inn & Cabins.
Parking at Desert Rose Inn & Cabins
There was ample parking at the Desert Rose Inn which makes this a great place to stay on your USA road trip!
How vegan-friendly is Desert Rose Inn & Cabins?
There is an onsite fine dining restaurant called Dukes. Dukes is a seasonal restaurant which is open between March and October. We stayed at the Desert Rose Inn during November so it was sadly shut. A quick glance at the menu shows a variety of burgers and salads. The Cowboy Salad looks vegan and I am sure the burgers could be adapted to be vegan
There is also small shop in the Desert Rose Inn with a selection of food, some of it vegan and a microwave! As we were staying at the Desert Rose Inn over Thanksgiving, everything was shut in Bluff! There are three places that serve vegan food in Bluff but all were closed due to the holiday. We were therefore very grateful of the microwave. We brought beans and wraps from a nearby store and the receptionist very kindly let us heat them up in the microwave!
Would we stay at Desert Rose Inn & Cabins again?
Yes, we would! I would love to visit Arches National Park one day and Desert Rose Inn would make for a great stop on the way to Moab. Also, it would be great to try out traditional Navajo food vegan style in Bluff when the independent cafes are open. I still dream of that swimming pool in Monument Valley.
